Cape Town City Art Tour
What to expect
Art comes in all forms, shapes and sizes and Cape Town is becoming one of the most immersive art cities in the world.
We take you on a South African art discovery from historical awareness to the new and creative art studios. An ode to our local painters, creators, chefs and designers – Art is appreciated in its full capacity on this day tour, leaving your senses enlightened and your passion for beauty revived.
The day commences with a visit to Woodstock, from a once bustling seaside resort to a semi-industrial area and now a bustling hub of creativity and hip coffee shops. Recently street art has been adding another voice to the transformation process. Since the early 1990s Woodstock has undergone a gradual urban renewal process, especially in the last decade or so. These days Woodstock is undoubtedly the creative hub of the Mother City, with factories making way for artist studios. The array of work is as vast and diverse as the artists that created them, both local and international, young and old, unknown and world-famous, who have come to put their mark on the walls of Woodstock.
From grit to grain we take you to the highly anticipated Zeitz MOCAA – The largest contemporary art gallery in Africa, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA, opened its doors in September 2017. Located in the V&A Waterfront’s historic Grain Silo, the gallery spans nine floors and includes the German-born businessman Jochen Zeitz’s renowned private collection of African artworks and installations, as well as cutting-edge contemporary art from around the continent.
After all the art appreciation, lunch is a must at the newly opened Radisson RED Hotel’s RED ROOF, pool + bar + grill. Tucked in the heart of the V&A Waterfront, RED Roof has panoramic views of the working harbour and of the famous Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Order your Craft Gin form their very own RED Drinks Van for an extra cool experience.
Situated in the bustling heart of the world-famous Clock Tower precinct and Gateway to Robben Island at the Waterfront, the Cape Town Diamond Museum pays tribute to the world’s most precious gem, a work of art, the diamond. Witness a 3 billion year old story unfold from a diamond’s formation to the final polished stone.
The Cape Town Diamond Museum is a non-profit organisation dedicated to creating a new appreciation for diamonds. A gift from Shimansky to the city of Cape Town. SA’s Cape Town Diamond Museum pays homage to this extraordinary story, with insight and originality, sophistication and style.
The tour is concluded with a visit to the Iziko South African National Gallery. The South African National Gallery is one of the foremost art museums in South Africa. The museum has large permanent collections of South African, British, French, Dutch and Flemish art that change regularly to allow temporary exhibitions of paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, beadwork, textiles and architecture.
